ECO CHURCH

St. George’s is committed to being an eco-church. We currently have our Silver Award and are actively working towards our Gold Award. With the wider Church of England, one of our Five Marks of Mission is to strive to safeguard the integrity of Creation and sustain and renew the life of the earth. St. George’s accepts responsibility for its effects on the environment and is committed to reduce them. Our 4 current themes are:

1. Reducing CO2 emissions, aiming to achieve net zero by 2030
2. Sustainability and waste management
3. Raising awareness, including through worship and teaching
4. Biodiversity

Among the initiatives that helped us towards our Silver Award have been insulating the roof of our Hall, installing a modern condensing boiler (with the help of generous grants) and installing an automated system to turn the heating on only when we have bookings. Recycling facilities, including composting, are available on our premises. We have installed bird boxes and a bug hotel around our green spaces and have our first grounds management plan in place. We regularly run awareness sessions for the congregation and eco-crafts for the wider community.

We welcome your support – why not pop along for a visit, become part of our volunteer community or support us by donating?
