Smarties
Smarties is a group for children from Year 4 to Year 7 which meets during the 9.30am Parish Communion to learn more about the Bible, the Church and how faith affects daily life. Consisting of children from both the choir and congregation, and led by a dedicated team of volunteers, Smarties, along with Sunday School, seek to show young people the importance of the Bible and Church, whilst also being a fun place of open discussion with friends.
Smarties meet at the back of Church during the second hymn and leave the service after the reading of the Gospel to explore the story and meaning of the readings together through craft and discussion, returning after the Peace. The Smarties then explain what they have learned to the congregation at the end of the service and lead the congregation in a short prayer.
This year our activites have included:
- Painting
- Games
- Godly Play
- Craft
- Baking
- Discussing ethical and faith-based issues
Throughout the service there is also a Junior Church Magazine available for young people to complete during the service, which can be found in the Children's Corner at the back of Church. Please ask one of the welcomers or the Churchwardens, who will be more than happy to point you in the right direction.
If you or your child would like to become a Smartie or you would just like to find out more please contact Helen Young on smarties@stgeorgesjesmond.org.uk or talk to the Churchwardens or welcomers during Parish Communion.
