Sunday Worship

Here at St George's Church, we value meeting together on Sundays to worship God as a community.

We value the liturgical tradition of the Church of England and our services are mainly based on Common Worship, although there are services which use the Book of Common Prayer texts.  Because we value God's word, we have three Bible readings and a psalm at all of our Sunday Eucharist celebrations.

All those who have been baptised in a Trinitarian Church are welcome to join us at the Lord's table for Communion.  Those who choose can receive a blessing.

Home Communion setSome of our Church members find it increasingly difficult to come to church as they get more infirm.  A team of dedicated individuals offer lifts to church for those who cannot come by themselves.  The clergy take home communion to the sick and housebound on request.

8.00am: Holy Communion

9.30am: Family Eucharist
A sung service, followed by coffee in the Church Hall
On the second Sunday of the month there is often a baptism

11.30am: Holy Communion
On the first Sunday of each month this is said using the Book of Common Prayer

6.00pm: Choral Evensong
On the third Sunday of each month (except during August)
Refreshments are served after the service

7.30pm: Reflections
A time of informal worship for those who enjoy a reflective, gentle time of prayer and praise.
This is a shared service between St Hilda’s and St George’s Churches and takes place at St Hilda’s Church
(St Hilda’s is in Thornleigh Road, near to Starbucks and West Jesmond Metro station)

A Form of Preparation:

Come, Holy Ghost, our souls inspire,
And lighten with celestial fire;
Thou the anointing Spirit art,
Who dost thy sevenfold gifts impart.

Thy blessed unction from above
Is comfort, life and fire of love;
Enable with perpetual light
The dullness of our blinded sight.

Anoint and cheer our soiled face
With the abundance of thy grace;
Keep far our foes, give peace at home;
Where thou art guide no ill can come.

Teach us to know the Father, Son,
And thee, of Both, to be but One;
That through the ages all along
This may be our endless song:

Praise to thy eternal merit,
Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
Amen.
