BRF Notes
St George’s encourages its members to study the Bible. A number of parishioners subscribe to publications of the Bible Reading Fellowship (www.brf.org.uk). The most popular are:
New Daylight. These notes are ideal for those looking for a devotional approach to reading and understanding the Bible. Notes are written by representatives of a stimulating mix of church backgrounds, and each days' reading provides the full text of a Bible passage, helpful comment and prayer or thought for reflection.
Guidelines. These notes offer in-depth study and are written by leading scholars from around the world who represent a stimulating and thought-provoking breadth of Christian tradition. Each weekly unit is divided into six sections, and there is an introductory section giving the context of the passages to be studied, and a final section of points for thought and prayer. The Bible passages themselves are not included.
Day by Day with God. These notes are written especially by women for women. Key verses from the passages are printed, but a Bible is needed for the full passages. Contributors provide helpful comment and a prayer for the day ahead.
Quiet Spaces. This three-times-a-year journal can be used in a very flexible way and does not consist of daily set passages from the Bible. The material is taken from a wide variety of sources and offers time to wonder, to be, to feel, to play, to explore; a pausing point, a breathing space... It is aimed at Christians who are looking for new ways to deepen and develop their faith.
All these are published three times a year and are available in January, May and September. The current cost of a year’s subscription is:
- New Daylight, Guidelines, Day by Day with God - £13.80
- Quiet Spaces - £16.95
