The Bible

God is love and the source of all life: this love and life of God is abundant and overflowing.  It overflows in creation, election, redemption and new creation.  God has revealed his love and his life in creation, in Israel, in Christ and in the Church and in the world.
The Bible bears testimony to this God of generous love.

The Bible is important to us not just as history or as great literature (although it is both) but as witness to the living Word.  Martin Luther said that the Bible is like the manger and swaddling clothes which contained within them God's precious gift to the world, Jesus Christ.

At St George's, we take the Bible seriously and seek to read it wisely - so that it brings life rather than death and love rather than hate.
You can find the weekly readings from the lectionary so that you will have time to ponder them before hearing them on Sunday, and a meditation, or 'spotlight' on scripture written by our Reader, Joan.

Joan also runs occasional Bitesize Bible groups to discuss and explore the scriptures more deeply.

The Bible Society website is a useful source of tools to help us read the Bible with wisdom:
