The St. George's Pantomime Band

The Band was, as its name suggests, first formed to play in connection with the annual church pantomime. Since then it has extended its music-making to become an integral part of the summer fete as well as performing in different venues in the area.

The Band consists of musicians connected with the church, mainly brass and woodwind players but is infinitely extendable (some say expendable!) thanks to the skill of its resident composer/arranger, Nick Southern. The Band caters for players of all abilities and welcomes new members who enjoy music-making in a free-and-easy atmosphere where gusto and brio count for as much as instrumental talent, though the ability to read music in a flexible way is helpful. The Band’s repertoire consists of classical arrangements, ‘big band’ and jazz pieces as well as the annual pantomime overtures, but it is also known to accompany hymns in church.

Photographs of the Band in action are not generally available as they have been impounded by the constabulary in connection with ongoing enquiries into breaches of the peace but a rare example has been found for this web page.
