The Friends of St George's, Jesmond

The Friends of St George's, Jesmond was founded (as a charity) on St George's Day 2008 in order to expand the role of St George's in the community, and to support future plans to maintain and renovate the fabric of the church and its ancillary buildings.

Objectives of the Friends

The Friends has been set up for the benefit of the general public, to assist in the care and preservation of the historic buildings and grounds of St George's Church, Jesmond and the promotion of facilities and events in those buildings, with a view to enhancing the lives of those who participate.

The establishment of The Friends of St George's has been an exciting event in Jesmond, and we do hope that you will support it by becoming a member.

Our Current Fundraising Project

We are currently raising money to refurbish the Winskell Room of the Church Hall to make it more attractive and easier to use by a wider range of those in the community.

Anticipated cost of this: £8,000

West WindowSt George's West Window
Renewing Our Inheritance

PHASE 1 - completed

This huge and unique window is in urgent need of repair.   It was an integral part of the design of the church, drawing the eye up to heaven and the coming of Christ in glory at the end of time.   Now beginning to collapse under its own weight and letting in water, it is also damaging the stone in which it is set.   The glass is cracked in places and the lead work needs to be renewed.

Thank you to everyone who has contributed to this project in any way.  The target of £57,000 has now been raised, with the Friends contributing over £10,000 of this.

A fantastic effort!

We are now seeking the necessary permissions to go ahead with the work.
