The Elderly
St George’s takes a lively interest in the elderly members of the community, and especially in those living in the various local care and residential homes.
There are fortnightly Communion services on Thursdays at 11 a.m. at Crag Hall in Crag Hall Dene,
on Thursdays at 2 p.m. at Cestria House in Sanderson Road
and on Wednesdays at 11 a.m. at Wordsworth House in Clayton Road.
Seasonal services – for example at Harvest Tide and at Christmas, are also held at Woodland Mews in Reid Park Road.
The Fairtrade Tearoom on Friday mornings is regularly attended by, amongst other people, a number of elderly people living nearby.
We are very pleased that Age Concern holds their Wednesday Lunch Club at 12 noon in the church hall. Several members of the congregation take an active part in helping with this. For more information about the Lunch Club, please contact Age Concern, Newcastle at http://www.acnewcastle.org/ or by ringing 0191 232 6488.
It is an important part of the role of the Pastoral Team to visit a number of elderly people, where appropriate offering Home Communion.
