Charities
The charities St George’s supported in 2011 are listed below.
In addition to donating funds to these charities the church arranges collections of goods for Newcastle’s West End Refugee Service (www.wers.org.uk) and clothing for the People’s Kitchen (http://peopleskitchen.co.uk/).
Members of the congregation help with the house-to-house collections in aid of Christian Aid (www.christianaid.org.uk ) and there are various other special events, such as concerts, in support of this charity.
Quizzes are regularly arranged in aid of Children Alone (http://www.emmanuelctc.org.uk/emmanuelcollege/charities/children_alone.php) - a charity working with orphans and HIV/AIDS-infected children in Zimbabwe.
Members of the church have spear-headed fund-raising to provide medical education for students at the Kilimanjaro Christian Medical College in Tanzania.
There are occasional collections, quizzes or other events in aid of other charities.
